According to a study published in the journal Integrative Cancer Therapies, researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, have found that a novel couple-based Vivekananda Yoga program appears to be safe, feasible, acceptable, and subjectively useful for patients with lung cancer and their caregivers.
For the single-arm feasibility trial, researchers enrolled 9 dyads of patients with lung cancer undergoing radiotherapy and their caregivers. All participants completed a 15-session Vivekananda Yoga program that focused on the interconnectedness of the dyad.
Results showed that 95.5% of participants subjectively rated the program as very useful. Researchers found that the program improved patients' mental health and resulted in a significant decrease in caregivers' sleep disturbances.
The authors conclude that their findings support further study of this intervention in more patients with lung cancer and their caregivers.
