Research Demonstrates That Chinese Herbal Medicine Can Treat Cancer

In a review of study results from 2,964 human clinical trials, Australia and Chinese university scientists found that Chinese herbal medicine offers significant treatment for most types of cancers. The cancer types most studied were lung, liver, stomach, breast, esophageal, colorectal, and nasopharyngeal cancer. Ninety percent of the clinical studies utilized herbal medicine, and 72% of the studies applied traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with conventional treatment. The large number of studies produced different types of results depending on study type, treatment, and outcomes measured. However, 85% of those that reported on symptoms, treatment with TCM improved cancer symptoms including reduced pain, increased survival (70%), reduced tumor size (38%), increased quality of life (28%), lower relapse rates (19%), and fewer complications (7%). The researchers found that in Chinese cancer studies, herbal medicine therapy is the leading type of holistic treatment cancer, as opposed to acupuncture, which is a popular pain management technique in the United States. The researchers demonstrated that Chinese traditional medicine is proven effective in treating cancer symptoms.
