Many people experience scratchy or sore throat, hoarseness, and loss of voice due to seasonal allergies.
However, if these symptoms persist beyond the season, the person may be experiencing something more serious.
The throat and vocal cords can become inflamed as a result of an allergic reaction, which can lead to a temporary change or loss of voice.
However, a person with a lingering change in voice, pain, or problems that do not go away over time or with medication should seek medical attention.
Additional symptoms that warrant further medical investigation include mouth pain or abnormalities, trouble breathing or speaking, pain in the throat or when swallowing, headaches, fullness in the ears or trouble hearing, chronic sinus infections, nosebleeds, swelling or other trouble with the eyes, and pain in the teeth or problems with dentures.
