An abnormal yet recurring chromosomal mismatch causes a little-known facial tumour that is more common in women. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic, in the US, analysed an unusual tumour sample back in 2004 and since then kept track of similar pathologies. This rare form of cancer is much more common in women (75 percent of registered cases) and because so little was known about it, it was usually misdiagnosed.
