A new study reports that p110δ inhibitors, a class of drugs used to treat leukemia, have an unexpected benefit. They boost immune responses against many different cancers. The researchers at University College London, the Babraham Institute and Queen Mary University of London, with scientists fromGenentech, South San Francisco, showed that inhibiting p110δ in mice significantly increased cancer survival rates across a broad range of solid and hematological cancers. The team’s data further show that following p110δ inhibition, the immune system could develop an effective memory response to completely fight off the cancer.
