Diarrhea:
Indications for: AEMCOLO
Travelers’ diarrhea due to noninvasive strains of E. coli.
Limitations of Use:
Not for use if diarrhea complicated by fever or blood in stool, or due to pathogens other than noninvasive E. coli.
Adult Dosage:
Swallow whole. ≥18yrs: 338mg (2 tabs) twice daily for 3 days.
Children Dosage:
<18yrs: not established.
AEMCOLO Warnings/Precautions:
Discontinue and consider alternative if diarrhea worsens or persists >48hrs. Discontinue and evaluate if C. difficile-associated diarrhea suspected or confirmed. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.
AEMCOLO Classification:
Rifamycin.
AEMCOLO Interactions:
Avoid alcohol.
Adverse Reactions:
Headache, constipation, dyspepsia.
