STATEMENT OF NEED/PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a significant side effect of cancer treatment that many patients experience. Barriers to effective prophylactic care and treatment are patient acceptance of CINV episodes as part of treatment and consequent failure to report episodes, and lack of risk assessment. This activity will describe the types of CINV, list risk factors to assess patients for, and list effective antiemetic regimens based on the emetogenicity of various common chemotherapy agents.

LEARNING GOAL/PURPOSE

To know the types of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting patients may experience and how best to manage this adverse effect.

NURSING CREDIT

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION

There are no fees for participating in and receiving credit for this activity. During the period October 2014 through October 2015, participants must 1) read the learning objectives and faculty disclosures, 2) study the educational activity, 3) complete the posttest by selecting the best answer to each question on the posttest, 4) complete the evaluation form, and 5) continue to next section to claim credits and view your certificate.

A statement of credit will be issued only upon receipt of a completed activity evaluation form and a completed posttest with a score of 70% or better. Statements of credit are available at the conclusion of the activity.
